Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 1997. It conducts the courses of M.Sc. Biotechnology and Ph.D. program in Biotechnology. Course is designed with scientific and technological approaches; course imparts the training and teaching in advanced Molecular and Biochemical Techniques applicable Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology so as to make the student more competent towards the commercial aspects of biotechnology. Course includes the total 12 papers for 3 semesters starting with basic biological science and technology in I and II semester to advanced and applied areas in III semester. Studies are sending to various National Institutes/Laboratories / Universities and industries, Biotechnology companies for the six month dissertation cum training work in IV Semester, for the practical working.
Students from other institutes and Universities are also doing projects / dissertations at Department of Biotechnology. It is great pride of Department that Prof. B.N. Johri, Emeritus Scientist (CSIR) was awarded the P.C. Ray Fellowship by MPCST, for his great achievement of Scientific Research in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology and Microbial Biotechnology. Department has completed two international collaborative projects viz. Indo-Swiss and Indo-German and one National CSIR Project under his prime investigation. Department is also running project on Medicinal Plants Diversity under the investigation of Dr. Anil Prakash. Department is conducting research on various areas like Agricultural Biotechnology, Mushroom Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnololgy, Cyanobacterial Biotechnology and Medicinal Plant Biotechnology. Total 12 research scholars are doing their research as the part of different projects.

BIOINFORMATICS CENTRE
Bioinformatics centre, one of the Sub-DIC, funded by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi, was started in the year 2002-2003, under the Department of Biotechnology. Major objectives of the centre are to provide the computational facility and basic training in Bioinformatics to students, scholars and faculties in the fields of life sciences. It is providing services like Internet facilities, one line literature search, Hardware and software installation and data analysis.
Centre is working in the areas of Microbial Genomics and providing the facilities to the students for the projects / dissertations work in the field of bioinformatics. Centre organizes minimum two workshops cum training programs in Bioinformatics in every academic year. Total 12 workshops and training were conducted during last 5 years. Centre has got enough infrastructures to carry out the training and research in Bioinformatics. Centre has its own web site www.bioinfobubpl.nic.in and network of two servers, 41 desktop PCs, 100 mbps LAN and 512 kbps leased line internet connection.
Centre imparts the training of 3 months and 6 months in Bioinformatics with minimal fee charges:
