The Department of Environmental Science and Limnology is imparting instruction at the Master and Research Degree levels. These courses have been started with the objective to achieve ecologically sustainable development of the region. This broad based multidisciplinary programme also provides opportunity to study various Limnological aspects of our inland freshwater resources. The importance of inland water resources for the welfare of mankind invites attention to understand their functioning and relation with the terrestrial ecosystem. Major thrust under this programme is laid on the study of Land water interaction; various types of pollution in Air, Soil and water; Biological diversity and production; Conservation, management and Rehabilitation aspects of Ecosystem; Remote sensing application, GIS, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Environmental Microbiology, The M.Sc. Environmental Science and Limnology are two year instructional programmes comprising of theory and laboratory courses, besides field studies. The department follows semester system which strive a emphasizing the learning process and optimal utilization of time with premium on regularly and flexibility. An essential feature of programme is the component of internal assessment, where under the students assessed regularly though seminar, quiz testes etc.

The M.Sc. programme is divided into four semesters as follows:
(I) First Year : First and Second Semester
(II) Second Year : Third and Fourth Semester
Admission is based on merit determined from qualifying exam marks.

Course Outline
The M.Sc. programme includes 12 papers taught across four semesters along with a dissertation/project in the 3rd semester.
Students may work in national institutes/laboratories.
The department has MoUs with various national and international organizations for joint research, seminars, and academic collaboration.
