The Department of Psychology was established toward the end of the Fifth Plan, and teaching commenced in the 1982-83 academic session. At present, the department offers M.A., P.G. Diploma in HRD, P.G. Diploma in Guidance & Counseling, M.Phil. Psychology, and Ph.D. courses in Psychology. The teaching programme is oriented toward imparting training in core areas and developing professional skills relevant to applications in various fields. Students are required to prepare research proposals, perform data analysis, conduct field studies, and present seminars. Research facilities are available in the areas of Experimental Psychology, Applied Social Psychology, Human Development, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Cognitive and Affective Processes, Mental Health and Stress, Rural Development, Motivation in Educational Settings, Environmental Psychology, and Organizational Behavior. The department has a fully equipped laboratory and computers for teaching and research purposes. In recognition of its academic achievements, the State UGC has identified this department as a Centre for Excellence.
